KENPO KARATE

Kenpo, or Ch'uan Fa Gung Shou in Chinese, means Way of the Fist, or more literally, Fist Law Method. It is a system comprised of specialty self-defense techniques, many of which have their roots in the theory and movement of Kung Fu. Kenpo also employs the traditional five-animal structure of the old systems.

Kenpo teaches self-defense and discipline through three primary methods:

Self-Defense Techniques - allows students to practice with different threatening situations and experiment with what-if scenarios.
Forms/Katas - give students the opportunity to develop mental concentration and self-awareness.
Sparring/Kumite - an exercise in which students test their skills, self-confidence, and self-control in a friendly competition with other students. It gives them the chance to sharpen their reflexes and timing in a controlled environment. Oriental weapons are also part of the training and are gradually introduced into the curriculum.
